Privacy Policy

The National Forest Company (NFC) is committed to protecting the privacy of those using the LANDshapes website and the confidentiality of the personal information with which our subscribers provide us.

1. Data Protection Act 1998

We are registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 and will comply with the Act in all our dealings with your personal data.

Your personal information is safe with us. The NFC will never sell personal information or share personal information with third parties unrelated to it.

At LANDshapes we use the information we collect to serve our customers in the following ways:

If you become a subscriber to the LANDshapes website your name, e-mail address and other information on the subscription form will be kept by us. We may also use your contact information to let you know about enhancements to the site and your subscription entitlements. If you would rather not receive this information please inform us by e-mail at privacy@landshapes.org

2. NFC Trust Charter

When the NFC needs to handle personal information about you so that we can provide LANDshapes services to you, this is how we will look after that information:

When we ask you for personal information, we promise:

  • To make sure you know why we need it;
  • To only ask for what we need, and not to collect too much or irrelevant information;
  • To protect it and make sure nobody has access to it who shouldn't;
  • To let you know if we share it with other organisations to give you better public services (and, where appropriate, get your consent);
  • To make sure we don't keep it longer than necessary; and
  • Not to make your personal information available for commercial use without your permission.

In return, we ask you to:

  • Give us accurate information; and
  • Tell us as soon as possible if there are any changes, such as a new address.

This helps us to keep your information reliable and up to date.

3. Cookies

We do not use cookies (defined below) for collecting user information from the site and we will not collect any information about you without your knowledge except that required for the system administration of the web server.

Cookies definition - a message given to a web browser of a web server. The message is then stored by the browser in a text file called cookie.txt. Each time the browser requests a page from the server, this message is sent back. A cookies main objective is to identify users and personalise their visit by customising web pages for them, for example by welcoming them by name next time they visit the same site. LANDshapes processes and stores information about its data subjects pursuant to its registered entry, all data is held in a secure manner and processed only for the reasons notified to the Information Commissioner.

Each image within the site has an alternative method of communication.

The navigation of the site has been designed to allow the user to find the information they require quickly and easily.

The website is compatible with most browser and screen technology, and has been tested to degrade gracefully.
