| Children of Pennine Way Junior School are amongst the latest to have completed their LITTLE LANDshapes Oral History Project.
They combined it with their studies of local mining history.
Their class teacher, Miss Joanne Smith together with parent helpers from the school organised an afternoon walk around Church Gresley led by Mr. Gee who is a regular speaker at the school on the mining industry and local history.
Mr. Gee was able to point out several items of historical interest on the walk and answered the children’s questions about buildings along the way and the mining artefacts outside the local Miners’ Welfare and Social Club.
The walk was recorded by our Oral History producer, Dave Kitto and the afternoon concluded at the school where Mr.Gee continued a busy question and answer session.
The children then did drawings and paintings which represented things they had learned about mining and their local part of the National Forest area and these pictures may be seen by following the gallery links above.
They really enjoyed their sessions and wrote to thank us for the opportunity to make their own special Oral History.
The school will have a CD copy of their recordings before Christmas.
