Past Projects

The Group's projects to date consist mainly of 'hands on' operations, some of which have been assisted by grants from public bodies such as Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire District Council. Since being formed the Group has identified 19 projects of which 13 have been accomplished involving, to date, some 2000 volunteer man hours. The
completed projects have included:

  • Refurbishment of all park seats/benches, provision of two additional park seats, two new picnic tables and two new litter bins.
  • Provision of two substantial low maintenance shrub beds to replace diseased rose tree beds.
  • Painting of Memorial entrance gates/pillars, another ornamental entrance gate/pillars, all playground equipment, and 18 hole crazy golf course.
  • Cutting back overhanging branches, shrubbery, basal growth on some 300+ trees, removal of alder trees encroaching on hedgerows.
  • Painting a long adjoining wall which was covered by graffiti.
  • Involving 5 local schools in planting 1600 daffodil bulbs on behalf of the Marie Curie Organisation.
  • Painting the park pavilion.
  • Provision of 5 hanging basket trees each with 2 baskets.
  • Shaping and maintaining the hedge surround to the Floral Clock, provided simulated clock face in stone segments and planting flowers for summer and winter displays.

Grant application has been made for the provision of an all purpose footpath adjoining a cascading stream, together with landscaping, picnic tables and park signage. Awaiting enablers visit to assess proposal.
Research is being carried out by a team of members to determine the historical background of the park. This should assist in obtaining 'Heritage' funding for schemes such as restoring the floral clock mechanism and the reinstatement of the bandstand.

Current Projects

The Group has an ongoing programme of work and to date the current projects identified are as follows:

  • Research into historical background.
  • Grant application as described above.
  • Painting an extensive ornamental fence surrounding a recreation area, together with entrance gates and hanging basket trees.
  • Painting another set of entrance gates to the park.
  • Planting the floral clock with permanent ground cover plants.
  • Planting ground cover plants in raised beds adjoining the main footpath through the park
