A walk around Calke Abbey
Clip 15 - The Auricula Theatre

By refusing to keep up with modern trends Calke has retained its Auricula Theatre, believed to be the only one of its kind left in Britain. This sheltered structure continues to display a few hundred, small, delicate flowering auriculas in spring, which were replaced with pelargoniums in the summer. Consistent with the Trust’s overall approach to the restoration and management at Calke, the theatre has been restored in such a way as to evoke the sense of a country house in decline.
