In the vegetable gardens there are four main plots, homes to groups of legumes, root crops, brassicas and miscellaneous crops. Herbs are abundant at Calke and when the Harpur Crewes were resident there was vinery for desert grapes at the back. Bell jars are used to protect and improve the flavour of the rhubarb.
