Historical Research into properties in the parish of Newborough
Update for February 2006
Echinacea flowersI now have just three properties to photograph, but I will need to return to one or two for a better view. I am now on my 8th reel of film (x36) but there are not that many properties in Newborough – I have taken more than one view of some places, and also found some other items of interest I thought best to include, like the bus shelter, the phone box (we luckily have retained the traditional ‘red’ one) and even the South Staffs. Water Booster Station – all part of the village scene in this century. I shall use up the last reel on views of the plantings in the Parish, which form part of the National Forest, and I also hope to seek out some of the oldest, mature trees, possibly remnants of the original Needwood Forest – time and weather permitting.
As regards research I drew a blank on the Turnpike records, apparently none exist for this area. I have looked at the Inclosure of the Needwood Forest maps and award, (1811) but unfortunately few properties are named. One of the maps is huge, and of course Newborough appears right in the centre – almost impossible to look at in detail.

Wild flowersI am now concentrating on mounting photographs and histories onto card, ready for the exhibition which is set for 31 March & 1 April. On Friday 31st March the exhibition will be officially opened and there will be a talk by Mr. Chris Copp (Staffordshire Museums Service) on the topic of ‘Staffordshire Past Track’, (an archive of old photographs held by the County and available on the Web).
