| The fourth TIMEframe Workshop on September 21st was based in Markfield, Leicestershire. 9 keen photographers joined Chris Beech, at Hill Hole Quarry and Blacksmith’s Field. Working in small groups, each was asked to compose pictures, which communicated either ‘lines’, ‘textures’, ‘colour’ or ‘pattern’. |
| Hill Hole Quarry on Hill Lane in Markfield began life over 140 years ago, in the 1860’s. There had been an old postmill on the site before 1743, but this was quarried away in the 1870s. Quarrying was a mainstay of the village, other industries being framework knitting and farming. The quarry was abandoned before World War Two. |
Hill Hole |
| Hill Hole supports a wide variety of wildlife including the protected and rare white-clawed crayfish in the lake. A set of steep stone steps lead the group down to the water filled quarry where from below they captured impressive towering rock formations. Climbing up to the trig point, at 600 ft plus, a toposcope pointed out features in the impressive views spanning over 50 miles to Coventry, Leicester, Rutland and Lichfield. |
Blacksmith's Field |
| Blacksmiths Field, an important geological site, gave opportunities to photograph beautifully coloured lichens, dry stone walls, atmospheric grasses and the stunning Altar Stones rock outcrops, millions of years old and thought to possibly be a Druid place of worship. |
| The group was prolific in the quantity of images, with over 700 photographs in 3 hours! Well done to Nina, Eric and Wendy, Group A, who were voted most successful in communicating their word ‘Lines’ at the end of the day. |
