Swadlincote Co-Op, High Street.

The Co-op was a department store which opened in Swadlincote in 1927. Do you remember your Co-op divvy number which got you a discount at the end of the year? At one time (around the 1940s / 50s) the Co-op organised games, events and outings for the local children.

D. B. could be a legacy of local bakers Dunnicliffe Bros.

The remnants of Slack Lane can be seen today. Slack Lane was a lane leading to a dip which formed a narrow valley and where the houses that formed Swadlincote village in the early 1800s.
