Interested in archaeology? ever wondered what relics of years gone by are to be found out in the fields? Witan Archaeology's new Young Historian Project is an exciting way to learn about your local history! |
The Young Historian Project is a project with grant-funding from LANDshapes that has worked with people and youth organisations in NW Leicestershire and The National Forest to encourage heritage studies and understanding, engaging participants through activities devised by Witan Archaeology including practical hands-on workshops, site visits and theoretical sessions at local venues. The project has worked with local historical societies to maximise resources and volunteer input.
The project aimed to: |
- Integrate more children and young adults with their local history
- Promote the study of history and the historical landscape
- To create a framework for historical studies by community groups, that can be applied and repeated by individuals working with youth organisations, historical societies and non-specialist organisations
- To practise and develop a variety of techniques and activities related to historical studies, which can be built in to this framework.
- To provide information on how to run and adapt these activities
- To bring together different parts of the community with historical projects
About our activities |
Over 2006 we ran workshops and history sessions for families and local youth groups, such as scouts.
Workshop places were open to anyone between 11-14 with an interest in the subject. The Young Historian Project included one-off talks and mini projects on themes related to a group's existing award or merit programmes; sessions were flexible to suit the needs and resources of the groups.
