Young Historian Project
Update for January 2006
The events in January started with three for the Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade. The first was at St Johns Community centre, Hugglescote on the 16th. The second was at Ibstock Church hall on the 17th. The last was at Broome Leys Church on the 19th.

BottlesAt all the events, the first talk was with the 7 to 10 year olds. This took the form of looking at the history of Pop and mineral water. This was done with examples of the different types of bottles used in the past.

For the 10 to 18 year olds, we held a discussion on the different periods in history and prehistory. By interaction with the young adults, it was possible to gain an understanding of what they knew about their historical past and maybe fill in some of the gaps.

On the 25th January there was an event at Holmsdale. This was based around maps. After looking at some local maps, old and new, the kids then had to draw a map of their local area using symbols that they had seen on the maps. Some of the older kids drew maps based on Anglo-Saxon land grants.
