Celebrating Memories of Melbourne
May was Local History Month and LANDshapes – Heritage in the Making Project joined forces with Derbyshire County Council’s Library Service and local heritage groups to celebrate Memories of Melbourne on May 23rd at Melbourne Library.

The event involved seeing, sharing and saving local history. Through photographic displays visitors could See how landscapes have changed in the area. By listening to a collection of recorded conversations with local people, on the LANDshapes Archive, they heard about how lifestyles have altered dramatically.

The Melbourne Historical Research Group brought a display of local history and their new publication ‘The Diary of Joseph Briggs’. Local photographer, Peter Clough exhibited his photographs of Melbourne, taken over the last 15 years and Melbourne Civic Society displayed images from their own archives.

Sharing and Saving information was important! People brought along old photographs of family members who had had interesting lives in Melbourne. Some of these will be added to the archive over the next few months. Watch this space!
